Recorded December 6th, 2016

The HIPAA Security Rule compliance stakes have risen. The Office of Civil Rights is currently enforcing against physician practices, and conducting audits of small practices and business associates alike. This half-hour with fifteen minutes for questions teleconference will address common problems that physician practices in particular face complying with the HIPAA Security Rule, with a particular focus on the Security Risk Assessment (SRA), as well as practical issues associated with complying. If your practice has not conducted an SRA in recent years, and/or does not have or enforce HIPAA compliance policies and procedures, your practice is at risk. Settlements of $100,000 at the low end, up to multiple millions of dollars for some violations, are a reality. Our teleconference will discuss several key requirements, using real-world examples of HIPAA settlements as “case studies,” and will address the steps your practice must take to achieve HIPAA compliance.

The teleconference will address:

• The ongoing OCR audits and what they examine.
• The purpose and importance of an SRA.
• Specific requirements of the HIPAA Security Rule.
• Common Security Rule mistakes.
• Examples of HIPAA settlements, and the penalties imposed.
